The President
My name is Tom Hummer. I am president and founder of My Builder, Inc. I know our name sounds like a large franchise but we're not. We're actually a local family owned business serving all of Northern Virginia.
Just last year we finished over 40 basements. We must be doing a lot right to be that successful! My Builder, Inc. has been in business since 2001. We began as a painting company and quickly found our niche in basement and bathroom remodeling. It's actually what we love to do.
It's not too often that people really enjoy their job and it really shows in both the final product and our clients' satisfaction with the journey through the project.

The Process
I am the estimator and project manager. The buck stops with the President of the company. No one cares about a company more than the founder. I will meet with you for about an hour at a mutually agreeable time. We will discuss your needs and design ideas. I will actually listen to what YOU want and then based on that information will suggest ideas of my own. I will create my drawing with measurements and notes.
At my office I will create an animated movie of your basement to show you what it will look like when it's finished, using the proposed design. I will send an email to you within a week containing the movie of your finished basement, a very detailed proposal and list of references.
This package takes numerous hours to create so I would appreciate it if you contact me with your initial thoughts. This entire package is FREE. I know. Sometimes I can't even believe it!
The Competition
You will undoubtedly find other contractors who will underbid My Builder, Inc. Our pricing will fall in the middle of the PROFESSIONAL companies. We obtain all required permits. We're licensed and insured. Our pricing is fair for both our clients and us. Our final product is worth more than that of the lowest bidder. And we won't run out of money half way through the project due to underbidding.
Our contracts are very detailed, down to the quantity of recessed lights, sheets of drywall, linear feet of baseboard etc. We include allowances for bathroom fixtures, tile, cabinetry etc. All of this is done so that there are no surprises along the way. I don't enjoy telling a client "Sorry, this was not included". That is uncomfortable for all of us. I am in contact with our clients by phone and email. I am a slave to my Blackberry. Communication is key to a successful project. Some say that I was born with a phone attached to my head. That's bad for my wife but good for our clients.

We are a general contracting company. We specialize in basement finishing and bathroom remodeling. We are the best in Northern Virginia. But don't take my word for it. You can contact our former clients. Ask them what went right and what went wrong. Ask them how I handled challenging situations and how well I communicated with them.
